Audition Policy

Auditions are required for placement into the following ensembles: KU
Wind Ensemble, KU Symphonic Band, and KU Symphony Orchestra,
All instrumental music majors, MEMT majors, and all scholarship recipients
(regardless of major) are required to take the audition. In addition, non-majors
who would like to be considered for any of the ensembles above must take the
audition. Non-majors who wish to play in the University Band are not required
to audition.

Audition Format

The audition will consist of prepared excerpts and sight-reading. All auditions
are blind,and placement will be based on how you perform. Whenever possible,
wind players will rotate semesters between KU Wind Ensemble and KU Symphony
Orchestra.

Audition Excerpts

There are five excertps. All music majors are required to play all five of the excertps.
Non–majors my either play the first three excerpts (the "B" list) or all five excerpts (the "A" list).
Audition excerpts will be available online and in the band office. Auditions will be scored
using the following rubric:

	Excerpt #1 – 10 points Excerpt #2 – 10 points Excerpt #3 – 10 points Excerpt #4 – 10 points Excerpt #5 – 10 points Sightreading – 20 points
