THE KU DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC & DANCE ANNOUNCES NEW FACULTY

SCOTT WEISS, Director of Bands, comes to KU from Indiana University, where he was Associate Director of Bands. He earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He was previously Director of Bands at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, and was a high school band director in Cobb County, GA and Fairfax County, VA for 9 years.

MARTIN BERGEE (PhD in music education) has joined the KU Music Education faculty. He was a tubist in the KU Bands in the late 70's, and later earned his PhD in music education from KU. He was a high school band director in St. Joseph, Missouri, and comes to KU after a 20-year stint on the music education faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

MICHAEL DAVIDSON has been appointed assistant professor of Trombone at KU. He comes to KU from Benedictine College, where he was Director of Bands/Orchestra. He received his DMA degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is principal trombonist for the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, and is solo trombonist with the Fountain City Brass Band.

STEPHANIE ZELNICK was appointed assistant professor of clarinet. She comes to KU from the faculties of the University of Wyoming and the University of Northern Colorado. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe and is currently principal clarinet in the Central City Opera and Boulder Philharmonic. She holds a doctorate in clarinet performance from the University of Northern Colorado.

DAVID NEELY was appointed KU's Director of Orchestras. He comes from the University of Texas-Austin, where he was Music Director of the Butler Opera Center. He holds a bachelors and masters of music degree from Indiana University.
